Forest School for Home Educators
Monday afternoons 1:30pm to 3:30pm
This is a new group for Wild Wood Bristol Forest School. Following the success of our preschool groups, we are looking to make the same opportunities available to children who are home educated: to play, explore and investigate the wonders of this beautiful woodland in the company of other families.
Our Home Educators sessions aim to support the children's learning journey whilst also following the Forest School ethos of facilitating child-led learning and discovery in the outdoors. Adults act as facilitators, responding to the children's interests and their enquiries, encouraging them to work and play collaboratively to solve problems. Adult initiated activities help to develop and broaden understanding of key concepts and the natural world. Our wonderful site, set in the heart of Dawson's Walk Woodland, is ideally suited for learning about habitats, seasonality and the diversity of the natural environment Being set in a woodland, affords the children plenty of opportunities to manage risks and explore their own interests.
Potential activities include: fire building; campfire cooking, tool use including whittling; nature based crafts; stream activities; den and shelter building; scavenger hunts; group games; and much, much more.
Cooking over the campfire is something that sets this Forest School apart. Each session includes making something new over the campfire. The children will be actively be a part of this process, making of the fire, preparation of the food and its cooking. Familiar favourites include smores, popcorn, apple and black berry crumble, scones and vegetable fritters. All sessions end with a hot chocolate.
